YEAR: 2009 RATED: PG-13

While not a normal follower of Star Trek movies, I was sold on seeing this from the great trailer and the rave reviews it was getting. And this movie has well earned such good feedback. It might not be the best movie of the year, but its special effects, sci-fi plot, and great cast of characters really makes this a great thrill ride at the movies. I highly recommend seeing this, and dont be worried about not being able to follow along. I didn't know much about Spock or Captain Kirk before this movie, but the characters are introduced clearly and the Star Trek movie franchise is reborn with some young blood in the pilot's seat.

J.J. Abrams has done the impossible. He has directed a Star Trek movie that I actually wanted to see and more surprisingly, is actually very enjoyable. This film tells the story of how the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise came together and it is an all-around crowd pleaser. Star Trek is perfect summer popcorn fare, with great special effects, a moving score, plenty of comedic moments and a story that actually makes you think. This film will undoubtedly be followed by a few sequels, and I'm shocked to say that I just might see them. Check it out in theaters.
